Imagination…

“Logic will get you from A to Z; imagination will get you everywhere.” – Albert Einstein.

Role play is an integral part of children’s’ learning. The imagination is a powerful tool which as we know is instinctive for some children but often needs encouraging and developing in others.

“Imaginative play not only aids intellectual development but also improves children’s social skills and their creativity.” – Julie Meighan – Role Play in Early Years Settings.

In order to harness your little ones imagination set up a role play area at home, be sure to provide them with the appropriate props and tools so they can mimic and play out things they have been observing. It is truly amazing how much children absorb with out you knowing. Z has been doing lots of wiping of different surfaces of late and she certainly didn’t get that from me!

Little Z is totally in love with the play kitchen at day care. Though she can barely reach the sink I really wanted her to have one at home. Kiddy kitchens are available at a range of price points in stores and online, and they come in an array of ghastly colours. I personally could not go past the simplicity of the Ikea Duktig kitchen.

I could not believe my luck when I found one on gumtree nearby for just $70! Though it is slightly preloved with a few scuffs and marks I have much grander plans for this kitchen. Checkout this masterpiece…

Alas it is not mine. But I will definitely be taking inspiration from this stunning makeover. I’m going to go with a monochrome look, subway tile splashback complete with matt black fixings and marble cerrara benchtop!

Its seems hardly fair that Zs kitchen is going to be a lot prettier than mine! The things we do for our kids.

Now off to source the bits and pieces, perfect procrastination from essay writing!

  1. I love this kitchen! I totally agree with you. Unfortunately imaginative play is sadly lacking from many children’s lives!
