Just finished my second session back in the gym after a lengthy hiatus. Though the muscle soreness last week nearly left me on crutches, I am thankful to my buddy Greggy (Activ8 Fitness, Caringbah) for reactivating my motivation and helping me on my way to achieve my fitness goals. Besides wanting the bikini body of Michelle Bridges for the summer, I’m aiming to do 3 chin-ups unassisted by christmas. For some reason this is my benchmark for fitness and strength. I think i have watched in awe one too many crossfit videos of ripped up chicks doing countless pull ups with out breaking a sweat.

To combat the muscle soreness i came up with this quick and easy post workout treat packed with protein after a little research and trial + error. I am by no means trying to lose weight so i use most ingredients pretty freely, but i do dairy free because i’m a little lactose sensitive. This smoothie is delicious and has a very nutty flavour, you could easily substitute peanut butter for the almond butter if you like or add a handful of baby spinach or frozen blueberries, its all about experimenting!


1 banana (can be frozen)

1 cup almond milk (I use ‘So Good – Unsweetened’)

1 TBSP chia seeds

1 TBSP almond butter

1 scoop protein powder (vanilla or flavourless)

4-5 ice cubes

Blend all ingredients, pour, serve and enjoy!


After just two PT sessions I already feel fitter, healthier, stronger and surprisingly happier. Those exercise endorphins do wonders.   1. Kelclectic you inspired me back into experimental smoothie making!
    This one isn’t quite as protein packed for those post exercise needs (though im sure you could easily pop some protein powder in?)… And does sound more than a little odd as a combination of flavours*…
    Though is absolutely delicious and as a breakfast kick start kept me going for hours!!

    (**inspiration gained from my recent Trip to Japan)

    Almond milk (or soy if you preferred)
    Avocado (half a lovely ripe one)
    Black sesame seeds (a small handful)
    A splash of maple

    You could always pop in a little almond spread and or chia seeds too for extra goodness!
